Description
Snake is a minimalist arcade game where the player continuously moves around an open arena collecting pellets that cause the snake to grow. Each pellet immediately spawns another somewhere else in the playfield, creating a new destination and a new routing problem. The player's own body becomes an increasingly dangerous obstacle, and the game continues until the snake collides with itself or the arena boundaries. The core loop is simple but endlessly self-escalating: collect, grow, reroute, survive. The game's brilliance comes from the fact that every successful action permanently changes the play space. The player is constantly creating the next challenge through their own success, resulting in a game that teaches itself without tutorials while naturally increasing tension over time.

Portfolio Notes
Snake represents one of the purest examples of emergent gameplay built from extremely simple rules. Its value curve is driven by permanence, accumulation, and self-generated difficulty rather than authored content. The game demonstrates how a single mechanic can continually create new decisions without requiring additional systems, enemies, or scripted events. For ManiMani, Snake is an excellent primary reference whenever the goal is to build games with immediate readability, almost no onboarding, and gameplay that remains interesting because the player's own actions continuously reshape the environment. It contributes clarity, replayability, and elegant systemic depth rather than progression systems or audiovisual spectacle.
