Description
Animal Shards is transitioning from its Unity idle merge/rescue baseline toward a touch-first exploration, Herbalism, Alchemy and animal-rescue adventure for browser/Poki. Assessment and proposed plan only; pivot gameplay is not implemented.
Project context
2026-10-18: repository assessed at DoraJam baseline commit 58d6f5e; README updated with confirmed code state and proposed transition. Unity 6000.4.10f1; retain controller/service/channel infrastructure, forest/character/animal art, UI and local document persistence. Reports, diary gifts and run-end save commits already exist. Proposed new loop: discover -> gather -> craft -> rescue -> unlock. Recommended first slice is one complete rescue, contextual crafting without mandatory cauldron travel, authored approach routes, and per-action durable transactions; then three small clearings, two professions and a small recipe set. Replace active merge, auto-cure, stamina-run and tap-boost rules; preserve baseline code/data during transition. Important dependencies: Poki gameplay-start is tied to merge drag, encounter events fragment lifecycle, and save schema 1 currently stores only diary data. Implementation, builds and playtests have not started. Scope counts, crafting location and legacy progression treatment remain proposals pending user review. World of Warcraft is primary; Fishdom Expeditions is secondary interaction reference. This is the existing Animal Shards Idle record, separate from Merge Healing Shards.
Player Promise
Persona
Proposed audience: casual browser/Poki players who enjoy approachable exploration, crafting and caring for animals, with portrait-first touch controls and desktop support.
Fantasy
Explore a magical forest as Helena, discover and gather useful plants, learn to craft potions, heal injured animals and open new places to explore.
Current validation question
Can touch-first exploration, Herbalism and Alchemy make the first animal rescue understandable quickly and motivate voluntary continuation into new areas?
Primary Reference
Reference
Reference thesis
Use exploration, Herbalism and Alchemy as the primary design reference: discover useful resources, gather ingredients, improve professions, craft potions and apply them to visible animal-rescue needs that unlock further exploration. Adapt this to short, touch-first browser sessions. Fishdom Expeditions is a secondary reference for world-object selection and automatic approach. No MMORPG combat, multiplayer or full economy is intended.
Alignment snapshot
Target direction only. Current Unity code remains an auto-walk, shard-merge, stamina-run and Magic Diary game; gathering, potion crafting, profession XP and persistent clearing progression are not implemented.
