Description
Feed the Cat Food Sort is a standalone Food Sort-based cat-care puzzle experiment split from the Matchy Cat exploration. The player should clear food-sorting/match-3 tray puzzles to generate food/care progress for a cat, testing whether the cat-care fantasy gives purpose to a Food Sort mechanic without inheriting Matchy Cat’s match-3 control friction or broader care-system complexity.
Project context
This project is intentionally separate from the existing Matchy Cat record and history. Lineage: it comes from the Matchy Cat / Color Cat Care learning that cat-care wrappers may be more promising when paired with a mechanic players understand quickly. Matchy Cat itself is parked; Feed the Cat Food Sort should carry the new Food Sort branch and should not overwrite or continue the Matchy Cat experiment history. Current reference source attached: Food Sort: Puzzle Game reference snapshot (source dc21cdff-c277-4311-ac8d-30566ec7d724). Do not update Jetpack Zombie or create any Fruits Inc/BCT reskin relationship as part of this setup.
Player Promise
Persona
Poki players who quickly understand casual sorting and match-3 tray puzzles, enjoy cute food and pet-care themes, and may continue longer when puzzle clears visibly feed or care for a cat.
Fantasy
Feed and care for a hungry cat by sorting cute foods into satisfying matches, turning each cleared tray into visible progress toward the cat’s current need.
Current validation question
Can a Food Sort-style tray matching/sorting mechanic support the cat-care fantasy better than Matchy Cat’s match-3 branch, with clearer first-minute comprehension and enough early variety to avoid boredom?
Primary Reference
Reference
Reference thesis
Feed the Cat Food Sort should use Food Sort: Puzzle Game as the primary reference for the core interaction: players sort/match food items in trays, clear groups of three identical foods, and progress through increasingly challenging tray arrangements. The cat-care layer should add purpose and payoff to cleared food without obscuring the simple Food Sort decision loop or importing Matchy Cat’s broader care-system complexity.
Alignment snapshot
Use Food Sort as the mechanic reference, not Foot Sort. Current evidence supports tray-based food sorting/match-3 clears, simple swipes/taps, increasing tray challenge, colorful food variety, and quick casual levels. Treat conveyor belts, juicer, or other later mechanics mentioned in review text as candidates for later inspection rather than baseline requirements. Matchy Cat lineage is limited to fantasy/presentation learning: one clear cat need, lightweight payoff, and avoiding Patience/recovery/Bonding complexity.
